The Nomad

<sub>Il est immortel. Il a traversé les époques et hanté la lande arthropodienne dans une marche sans fin, sans jamais passer deux fois au même endroit. Mais son but reste inchangé. On le dit porteur d’un pouvoir divin surgi du néant. Une puissance cosmique égarée sur cette terre et dont l’étendue dépasse la logique de ce monde. Il lui a fallu, durant son éternité, combattre ceux qui la convoitent, certains œuvrant pour une bonne cause, d’autres pour une mauvaise. Pour préserver cette force occulte de l’avidité de ses pairs, ce gardien n’a d’autre choix que de fuir éternellement, renonçant à son passé, son avenir, son existence. C’est sans doute cela qui lui a valu d’être surnommé, au fil du temps, « Le Nomade ».


L’histoire ci-dessus se passe bien des siècles après la génération de Dip, Nanti et Eska. Le cristal Aegis a fini par errer de dimensions en dimensions… jusqu’à finalement s’échouer sur un univers bien connu : Arthropodia. Mais il est gardé par un guerrier qui a, au fil des siècles, assimilé les pouvoirs et connaissances liés à la pierre maudite, devenant ainsi le plus puissant combattant de ce monde. Certains pensent qu’il tire son immortalité de l’Aegis. Il se peut cependant que « Le Nomade » ne soit en réalité qu’un titre transmis de guerrier en guerrier depuis des centaines de générations. Car la mission du Nomade est double. Il doit non seulement protéger le cristal maudit mais aussi, lorsqu’il sent sa fin prochaine, trouver un combattant capable de reprendre sa succession et prêt à tout pour défendre l’infernal pouvoir. Un individu résistant, généralement condamné à une mort certaine, prêt à renoncer à son nom et son ancienne vie… et surtout à tuer sans distinction tout ceux qui auront eu le malheur de voir le cristal maléfique en action, innocents ou non! Le Nomade défie alors l’héritier potentiel au combat. Si le candidat échoue son sort est sans appel. Mais si, au contraire, il parvient à mettre le gardien en échec, ce dernier lui confie le cristal (et le titre et les responsabilités qui vont avec) et lui demande de l’aider à mourir (ou se suicide en cas de refus de l’héritier, car il ne doit rester aucun témoin). Le nouveau gardien hérite alors du fardeau et de la mission de protection et de succession et ce jusqu’à ce que la pierre retourne enfin dans le néant. Certes il ne gagne qu’un sursis voué à une existence de fuyard assassin… mais c’est aussi pour lui le moyen d’accéder à l’immortalité en entrant à son tour dans la légende du Nomade.

He is immortal. He crossed the time and haunted the arthropodian moor in an unlimited walk, without ever passing twice in the same place. But his purpose remains unchanged. We say it guardian of a divine power appeared from the nothingness. A cosmic power misled on this earth and the extent of which exceeds the logic of this world. It was necessary to him, during his eternity, to fight those who desire it, some working for a good cause, the others for a bad. To protect this dark power of the greediness of his peers, this guardian has no other choice to run away eternally, abandoning his past, his future, his existence. It’s doubtless it who was worth to him being nicknamed, as time goes by, « The Nomad ».


The story above goes well centuries after the generation of Dip, Nanti and Eska. The Aegis crystal eventually roamed from dimensions to dimensions until run aground finally on a well known universe: Arthropodia. But it’s guarded by a warrior who learned, in the course of the centuries, the powers and the knowledge bound to the cursed stone, so becoming the most powerful fighter of this world. Some people think that he pulls his immortality from Aegis. It is however possible that « The Nomad » is in reality only a title transmitted from warrior to warrior since hundreds of generations. Because the Nomad’s mission is double. He not only has to protect the cursed crystal but also, when he feels his next end, to find a fighter capable of taking back his succession and ready for everything to forbid the infernal power. A resistant fighter, generally doomed, ready to abandon his name and his ancient life… and especially to kill without distinction everything those who will have had the misfortune to see the malefic crystal in action, innocent or not! The Nomad defies then the potential heir to the fight. If the candidate fails no doubt on his fate. But if, on the contrary, he succeeds in overcoming the guardian, this last one confides him the crystal (and the title and the responsibilities which go with) and asks him to help him to die (or commits suicide if the heir refuses, because he has to stay no witness). The new guardian inherits then from the burden and from the mission of protection and succession until the stone returns finally to the nothingness. Certainly he gains only a delay dedicated to an existence of fugitive murderer but it is also for him the means to reach the immortality by entering in his turn the Nomad’s legend.</sub>
