Under the glance of the moon

Fonçant à travers la jungle luxuriante, Dipterion finit par déboucher sur une petite clairière. Le vent s’était calmé laissant place à un silence paisible. Le cadre tout entier, illuminé par l’éclat de Leucelia, la lune blanche, semblait propice à un repos voluptueux. Arasé par son long voyage, fatigué d’avoir bravé moult dangers et d’avoir couru et volé toute la journée, Dipterion se laissa tomber dans l’herbe fraiche et tendre. Bercé par la douceur de la nuit, le petit Vespa ne tarda pas à sombrer dans un profond sommeil, sous le seul regard de l’astre complice. Seul… ou presque…

Enfin libéré de ce dessin ! Cela fait plus d’un mois que je lutte contre ma crise de flemme pour réussir à le boucler ! J’en peux plus ! Mais il me permet néanmoins de fixer pas mal de trucs, à savoir la faune et la flore de mon monde… ainsi qu’un nouveau peuple arthropodien : les Lampyres (Note : le premier qui me crie « Lampyre contre-attaque » s’en prend une ! è_é).

Les représentants de ce peuple, dont l’existence est très controversée, n’apparaissent que la nuit et possèdent l’étrange particularité d’émettre une lueur phosphorescente de couleur et d’intensité variables (Les naturalistes pensent qu’un composé chimique présent dans leur sang serait à l’origine de ce phénomène et que la nature de la lueur varie en fonction des émotions auxquelles est sujet l’individu.). On raconte qu’ils s’en servent pour guider les voyageurs égarés dans la forêt mais personne n’en est vraiment sûr. Des témoins affirment cependant avoir aperçu une étrange lueur alors qu’ils ne parvenaient pas à retrouver le sentier duquel ils s’étaient éloignés. Sans arriver à identifier la source lumineuse qui semblait s’éloigner au fur et à mesure qu’ils désiraient s’en approcher, ils auraient finalement réussi à retrouver la route qu’ils avaient perdue de vue. Les scientifiques pensent que ce phénomène de luminescence servirait pour les parades nuptiales. Ils voient également en ce dernier un mécanisme de défense et de survie permettant aux Lampyres d’attirer le gibier ou au contraire d’éloigner les fauves.

Car l’écosystème arthropodien comprend de nombreuses espèces plus ou moins utiles ou nuisibles aux insectoïdes. La chair et la fourrure des Musarias, sorte de souris porcines, sont très appréciées. Les Kazoas, poulets coureurs et maladroits, constituent également un gibier de choix. Certaines espèces comme le Spinork (hérisson-taupe) ou le Tejia, un ver géant dont il se nourrit (et dont le nom signifie « tige qui bouge »), ne présentent pas grand intérêt. D’autres aussi rapides que craintives sont difficiles à attraper comme les Iguanocs (lézards coureur à crinière) ou les Basilas (Varans à crète). Les Donmunks, écureuils primitifs, partagent les cimes arboricoles avec les agiles Lemurios qui sautent de branche en branche. Des espèces aussi imposantes que le Koroa, ou oiseau-totem, ne sont dangereuses pour les arthropodiens que si on les provoque. Gare alors à son impressionnant bec, d’1m50, donc les coups peuvent fendre un arbre en deux ! Le Vamp, chauve-souris aux canines proéminentes, n’est pas non plus spécialement à craindre quand il chasse en solitaire. Mais son aspect effrayant, renforcé par les attaques de bétails auxquelles il se livre, ont terni son image et alimenté les folklores (Bien que les cas d’attaques sur les insectoïdes soient assez rares.). Il a été énormément traqué jusqu’à se raréfier et se retrancher dans des milieux plus reculés. En revanche, certains animaux sont à éviter comme le Gorink, un énorme sanglier de plus de 2m de haut et très agressif ! Le Jagora, ou lion arthropodien, est également à redouter tout comme son ennemi le Gorath ou rat-ours qui, dressé sur ses pattes arrières, peut atteindre 3m de haut et arracher les membres d’un seul coup de patte !

Rushing through the luxuriant jungle, Dipterion eventually uncorks in a small clearing. The wind had calmed down leaving place with a peaceful silence. The whole landscape, illuminated by the brightness of Leucelia, the white moon, seemed convenient to a rest. Tired by his long journey, tired to have defied many dangers and to have run and flown all day long, Dipterion dropped in the fraiche and soft grass. Rocked by the night sweetness, the small Vespa did not delay sinking into a profound sleep, under the only glance of the complice aster… or almost …

Finally I finished this drawing! It has been more than a month since I fight against my laziness to manage to end it! I can it anymore! But he allows me nevertheless to fix quite a lot of things, namely animals and flowers of my world as well as new arthropodien people: Lampyres (Note: the first one who say " The Lampyre Strikes Back " takes a slap in the face ! è_é).

The representatives of these people, whose existence is very controversial, appear only at night and possess the strange peculiarity to emit a phosphorescent light of variable color and intensity (the naturalists think that a present chemical compound in their blood would be at the origin of this phenomenon and that the nature of the light varies according to the feelings to which is subject the firefly.). We tell that they use it to guide the travelers misled in the forest but nobody is really sure of it. Witnesses however assert having perceived a strange light while they did not succeed in finding the path from which they had gone away. Without managing to identify the light source which seemed to go away as they wished to approach it, they would have finally managed to find the road of which they had lost sight. The scientists think that this phenomenon of luminescence would serve for courtship displays. They also see in this last one a mechanism of defense and survival allowing Lampyres to attract the game or to take away dangerous animals.

Because the arthropodien ecosystem includes numerous species more or less useful or harmful to insectoïdes. The meat and the fur of Musarias, kind of porcine mice, are very estimated. Kazoas, chickens runners and awkward, also constitute a nice game. Certain species as the Spinork ( hedgehog-mole) or the Tejia, a huge worm on which it feeds (and whose name means "moving stalk"), do not present big interest. Others so fast as timorous are difficult to catch as Iguanocs (running lizards with mane) or Basilas (Varanuses with crest). Donmunks, primitive squirrels, share the tree-dwelling tops with agile Lemurios who jump of branch in branch. Species like impressive Koroa, or totem-bird, are dangerous for the arthropodiens only if we provoke them. Be carefull then ! Its impressive beak, of 1m50, thus the knocks can split a tree in two! Vamp, a sabretoothed bat, is not dangerous either specially when it goes hunting solo. But its terrible aspect, strengthened by the attacks of cattles in which it is engaged, tarnished its image and fed the folklores (although the cases of attacks on insectoïdes are rather rare.). It was enormously pursued until rarefy and take refuge in more put off places. On the other hand, certain animals are to be avoided as Gorink, an enormous wild boar furthermore of 2m of high and very aggressive! Jagora, or arthropodian lion, is to dread also quite as its enemy Gorath or rat-bear which, raised on its legs rear, can reach 3m of top and tear away the members with a powerful blow of paw!
